As scams become more sophisticated, it’s crucial to stay informed and vigilant against potential threats. We’re committed to helping you recognise and avoid scams, especially those where fraudsters impersonate the fund to deceive you.

Here are some commons scams to watch out for and tips to protect yourself:

Phishing Emails 

What it looks like: You receive an email from an address that looks like ours and it asks you to click a link and put your member details in.

How to spot it:

  • Check the sender address – official emails from NESS Super come from @nesssuper.com.au
  • Watch out for poor grammar or generic greetings like “Dear Sir/Madam”
  • Never click suspicious links or share login details.

Fake investment opportunities

What it looks like: You receive a call or email from someone claiming to be a financial advisor from our fund, promoting a high return investment opportunity. They ask you to transfer funds immediately to secure the deal.

How to spot it:

  • We will never pressure you into making quick financial decisions
  • Always verify investment opportunities directly with us
  • Our financial planners’ official contact details can be found at nesssuper.com.au/advice

Unauthorised fund transfers 

What it looks like: A scammer calls you claiming they need your bank account information to resolve an issue with your superannuation payment.

How to spot it:

  • We will never ask for your password.
  • If in doubt, always contact us directly.

Fake technical support

What it looks like: You receive a call from someone stating they are from our support team, saying your online account has a security issue and needs immediate attention. They ask for remote access to your computer.

How to spot it:

  • We will never request remote access to your computer or mobile
  • Hang up immediately and report the call to us

Fake surveys or market research

What it looks like: You receive a call or email inviting you to participate in a survey about our services, with the promise of a reward. They ask for your personal details to enter you into a prize draw.

How to spot it:

  • Legitimate surveys from NESS Super will not ask for sensitive personal information
  • Always verify the legitimacy of the survey by contacting us directly

Fake account alerts

What it looks like: You receive a text message claiming that your account has been compromised and instructing you to click on a link to secure it.

How to spot it:

  • We will never ask you to verify your account by clicking a link in a text message
  • Always log in to your account directly through our official website

How to protect yourself

Here are some simple steps to take to stay safe:

  • Be sceptical of unsolicited contact – especially if it involves urgent requests or too good to be true offers
  • Never share your passwords or full bank details over the phone or email
  • Use strong, unique passwords for your online accounts and update them regularly
  • Enable two-factor authentication on your online account and mobile app
  • Keep your devices secure with up to date to ensure you have the latest security protections.
  • Report suspicious activity to us immediately
