Flexible options for younger members

If you’re a new NESS Super member under 30, you can, within 180 days of being First Eligible (generally, this is the date you first commenced employment with a NESS Super Employer), choose to reduce your Death cover to 1 unit and keep 2 units of Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover. When you turn 30, your Death cover will automatically revert to 2 units. If you are a new member under age 21, you can within 180 days of being First Eligible (generally, this is the date you first commenced employment with a NESS Super Employer), choose to reduce your Temporary Salary Continuance (TSC) cover to 1 unit of up to $1,275 per month. When you turn 21, your TSC cover will automatically revert to 2 units.

Increase your Death and Total and Permanent Disablement cover

With NESS Super, you can apply for up to a total of $5 million worth of Death cover and up to a total of $3 million worth of TPD cover. The cover won’t be granted automatically – the insurer needs to agree to it and may ask you to provide medical evidence to support your application. You can also apply for limited upgrades to your cover without providing medical evidence when you join NESS Super and at various turning points in your life, as explained below.

Easy upgrade when you join your Employer*

You can apply for an additional 2 units of Death cover or an additional 2 units of Death and TPD cover without providing medical evidence when you first join a NESS Super Employer (provided you are in active employment).

*Not available to Spouse members.

Easy upgrade for specific life events

NESS Super also offers an easy upgrade of one unit per year of Death cover for specific life events such as buying a house, getting married or having a child. Provided you meet certain conditions, you don’t need to provide medical evidence when applying for these upgrades, but you do need to apply promptly.

Take out optional additional Temporary Salary Continuance (TSC) cover

You can apply for additional units of TSC cover, up to a maximum of total monthly cover of $25,000 per month. Seasonal workers are not eligible for TSC cover. While default TSC cover does not apply for Spouse Members, Spouse members who are employed can apply for TSC cover from NESS Super.

Take out optional Long Term Salary Continuance Insurance (SCI)

You can apply for a fourth type of cover – Long-term Salary Continuance Insurance – which provides a monthly income until age 65 if you suffer a disability that stops you working. This cover can only be taken out with Temporary Salary Continuance (TSC) cover.
