What does NESS Super offer?

We’ve got your insurance needs covered

Insurance cover gives you and your family peace of mind should something happen to you. Insurance with NESS Super is easy, flexible and affordable:

  • Premiums are negotiated on a group basis to keep costs down for members.
  • Insurance cover premiums are deducted from your account balance every month.
  • NESS Super offers four types of insurance cover: –    Death (including Terminal Illness) –    Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) –    Temporary Salary Continuance (TSC) –    Optional Long-term Salary Continuance Insurance (SCI)
  • NESS Super employed members automatically (conditions apply) receive default cover for Death, Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) and Temporary Salary Continuance (TSC).
  • NESS Super Spouse Members automatically (conditions apply) receive default cover for Death and Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD).
  • You can change your level of insurance cover to suit your needs and situation.* You can even opt out of cover entirely if you wish. Please complete a Change My Insurance Details Form. You may also need to fill out a Personal Statement.
  • You can apply for an easy upgrade of one unit of Death cover or one unit of Death and TPD cover when you experience specific life events such as buying a house, getting married or having a child, without having to provide medical evidence (not available to Spouse members or Self-Employed members).
  • If you have Death, Total and Permanent Disablement or Temporary Salary Continuance cover with another fund when you join NESS Super, we may be able to transfer your insurance cover without the need for full underwriting (which requires medical evidence). This offer is subject to certain conditions, so please keep your other insurance until we confirm we can match your cover.
* Medical evidence may be required and any upgrade is at the discretion of the insurer.

Death cover

Death cover provides a lump-sum payout if you die or become terminally ill. It’s paid together with your super account balance to a beneficiary or beneficiaries nominated by you. The size of the insurance payout depends on the number of units of cover you take out and your age. You can choose the person you would like to receive your death benefit. You can make a Preferred Beneficiaries Nomination telling the NESS Super Trustee your wishes but leaving the Trustee with the discretion regarding beneficiaries, or make a NESS Super – Members’ Binding Death Benefits Nomination Form, which requires the Trustee to follow your wishes when a benefit is paid on death.

Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover

TPD cover provides a lump-sum payout if you are totally and permanently disabled. It is paid together with your super account balance. The size of the insurance payout depends on the number of units of cover you take out and your age.

Temporary Salary Continuance cover (TSC)

TSC cover provides a monthly income if you suffer a disability caused by an injury or illness. To be eligible for TSC benefits you need to have been off work for 90 days, partially or totally disabled and unable to work.

Optional Long-term Salary Continuance (SCI) cover

NESS Super also offers Long-term Salary Continuance cover, which provides a monthly benefit payable to you until 65 if you suffer a continuing disability. It is voluntary and can be taken out only with TSC cover.
